If He Had Not Come
David Nicholson
4-7
Bobby cannot wait to go to bed on Christmas Eve, eager to wake up and discover what is in all the packages underneath the tree. However, Bobby is surprised the next morning when he discovers that no one in his house or the surrounding town knows what Christmas is. It doesn’t take long for Bobby to realize what life would be like if Jesus had never come.
Question 1 - Why was Bobby surprised when he woke up on Christmas morning?
Discussion Guide - Discuss how no one knew what Christmas was or who Jesus was.
Question 2 - What are some things that Bobby discovered would be different if Jesus had never come?
Discussion Guide - Discuss how he learned that places of care such as hospitals, children's homes, and homeless shelters would not exist. If you are reading this book with children 6 and up, discuss how it was Christians in the first centuries who started hospitals, orphanages, systems to care for the poor, universities, and many of the other parts of society that we take for granted.
Question 3 - Why is it that Jesus changed the world in such an important way?
Discussion Guide - Read Jeremiah 31:31-34, Ephesians 2:4-10, and John 13:34-35. Discuss how Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sin and give us new life. Then, discuss how he has commanded us to love one another.
