The One O’Clock Miracle

Alison Mitchell

Ages 4-7

A father travels miles and miles to see Jesus. His son is sick, and he knows Jesus can help. But instead of accompanying the man home, Jesus simply says that his son will be well. This retelling of John 4 helps little ones see that Jesus’ miracles show that He is God.

Question 1 - Ask your child what miracle occurred at one o’clock.

Discussion Guide - Jesus healed the man’s son from twenty miles away.

Question 2 - Read John 4:46-54. Ask your child which parts of the story were exactly the same as the biblical account and which parts differed.

Discussion Guide - Discuss how almost everything is the same. The one differing detail is Jesus saying in John 4:48, “Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe.” Discuss how the man believed Jesus’ words even when he could not see with his eyes that his son was healed.

Question 3 - Read John 20:30-31. Ask your children why God had John record this miracle.

Discussion Guide - This miracle was meant to be evidence that Jesus is God and that by believing, we might have life in Him.
